Project Context:
This project examined the relationships between the body, objects, and space as a starting point for jewellery or silversmithing outcomes. The brief encouraged site-specific thinking, material experimentation, and an understanding of how location and environment can shape meaning within objects.
My Theme & Final Outcome:
My work was inspired by childhood memories of being in the sea, particularly the tactile experience of navigating rock pools and barnacle covered rocks while searching underwater. I was interested in the contrast between rough and smooth textures, referencing the instinctive way the body seeks stable surfaces to grip while being underwater. Through texture exploration and paper collages and prototypes, I developed a vessel form that suggest rock like surfaces while remaining minimal in shape. The final piece function as a vessel while encouraging a sensory, tactile relationship with the hand, reflecting ideas of searching, grounding, and the balance between permanence and movement within natural underwater environments.
